The T’au Empire are my main faction when it comes to collecting and building an army. I’ve written plenty of background information on the Vash’li Sept which I would like to turn into a nice mini codex.
Overview
The basic premise is that the sept was founded around a planet which had naturally become an outpost for fleets and merchants. The planet is completely covered in a huge forest except for a strange hole that has been punched through it. The first obstacle to claiming the planet were Orks which were promptly destroyed, but it has since become apparent that there are Necrons sleeping deep under the planet’s surface.
There is much more which I wont dig in to now, but here are some miscellaneous drawings.
Models
I have a lot of models for this faction, for now I am only showing newer models that I consider to be complete. I have more which are close to completion that will be added when finished, and some older models which I want to have a good look over and see if they could do with any further work before sharing.
I originally painted the sept in a white and blue scheme for a snowy environment, but after a break from the hobby I decided to change to a forest scheme. I would like to return to the snowy scheme as I get quite bored from painting the exact same colours repeatedly, and now that I have more painting experience I have a better understanding of using white paint.
Pathfinders
These were my first miniatures in the newer forested scheme. The sept has a great need for Pathfinders due to the hazardous environment of the home planet where they additionally take on an escorting role.
Pathfinders’ Devilfish
I liked the pathfinders a lot and so gave them their own dedicated transport. This ended up taking a while as I kept putting it off due to painting the entire thing with a brush. I swore that this would be the last vehicle I paint without an airbrush.
Ghostkeel
This is one of my favourite models, it’s clean and simple but still took me quite a while to do. The guardsmen on the base was bought with prize money from a Star Realms tournament, I purchased a box of 5 push-fit guardsmen and they have since made for great basing material.
Piranha
This was a good chance to try out masking a camouflage pattern using an airbrush. I’m not sure why but the edge highlights are very faint so I may go over them again with a brighter colour.
Ethereal
This ethereal was a quick break from larger models, the gun and double sided glaive were kitbashed and the original base was replaced with a flying stand. I’ve started to alter flying bases so that they have different terrain to the debris provided, especially as so often it is specific to an Imperial world, which I often don’t want.
Stealth Battlesuits
As much as I like how they look, I have never enjoyed painting these. I think it’s made worse by how often they are included in bundles. I would prefer a squad that mixed XV15s and XV25s like in Dawn of War. Either way, I’m happy with the final result, simple and clean.
